Organic wines

The vineyards are concentrated in the north and south of the Empordà, and are grown very close to the ground to prevent the north wind from blowing them away. Many of the wineries are grouped under the Empordà Designation of Origin (website), which has a growing prestige. There is quite a wide range of wines. The reds are of excellent quality, full-bodied, well-formed and well-balanced. Whites are often made with local varieties, making them fresh and flavourful. The rosés have a well-defined cherry colour and a moderate alcohol content. The area’s most unique is Grenache of the Empordà, a natural sweet wine, exceptional for dessert.
