ECOLOGICAL OLIVE OIL
There are also vineyards and olive trees around the Natural Park. In fact, they have been there since ancient times, when the Phoenicians and Greeks arrived on this coast.
In the case of olive trees, the local varieties are argudell, corivell and verda, although arbequina was introduced at the end of the 20th century. Part of the oil production is registered with the Oli de l'Empordà Protected Designation of Origin, which ensures a high quality product.
Empordà oil has a clear and clean appearance, remarkable complexity and aromas reminiscent of fennel, almonds and aniseeds. The Natural Park is working to recover slopes of Montgrí that had been used for olive cultivation with a double objective: to give more value to the local variety of Argudell olive tree and to improve fire prevention.
